Additional Sourdough Supplies

These supplies don’t replace skill, but they reduce friction, improve cleanliness, and keep your baking environment mission-ready. Think of these as expendables and onboard support gear — easy to overlook, but very noticeable when they’re missing.

Heat and Bake

High-heat parchment paper (450–500°F+)

Creates a clean barrier between the dough and the Dutch oven or stone. Prevents sticking, scorching, and messy cleanup after landing.

Silver Teflon Liners (Optional)

Helpful for open bakes and keeping ovens clean. Silver teflon liners protect pizza stones from spills, support even heat distribution, and are especially useful for doughs with inclusions that may leak during oven spring. They can also be used as a protective base inside a Dutch oven to reduce sticking and simplify cleanup.

 Trivets

Helpful to protect your kitchen counter surfaces.

Cleaning & Sanitation

Metal or stiff scrub brushes

For removing dried dough from bowls, tools, and surfaces without damaging equipment.

Microfiber cloths

Keeps stations clean, dry, and flour-free between steps. A clean cockpit and workspace improve focus.

Spray bottle (50% water / 50% alcohol)

Quick sanitation for surfaces, tools, and hands between tasks. Fast, effective, and low residue.

Other Helpful Items

Handling & Coverage

Tea towels (lint-free)

Covers dough, benches, and baskets without sealing airflow. Simple but essential.

Banneton Liners

Useful for covering doughs during cold proofing, keeping all your loaves covered and protected from drying out.

Storage & Organization

Containers for flour and grains (airtight)

Keeps ingredients dry, fresh, and clearly visible. Prevents moisture and contamination.

Measuring cups & liquid measuring containers

Helpful for inclusions, water adjustments, and side preparations — even if you primarily bake by weight.

Markers or Labels

For dating starters, marking growth lines, hydration notes, or batch IDs. Memory fades — notes don’t.

Cutting, Cooling & Storage

Cutting Boards

Stable surface for slicing and inspection after baking. Protect your hands, kitchen surfaces, and loaf.

Cooling Racks

Allows airflow under the loaf so the crust sets properly without condensation.

Bread Storage Bags

For home storage, gifting, or selling. Protects crust while maintaining freshness.
